Our view

Avaya Cloud Office is RingCentral. Literally. Avaya and RingCentral struck a partnership in 2019 in which Avaya resells RingCentral's platform under its own branding. The underlying infrastructure, feature set, admin portal, and SLAs are RingCentral's. Avaya adds its own support layer, partner channel, and migration tooling for customers moving off Avaya IP Office or Avaya Aura hardware.

The honest buying question is whether ACO makes more sense than going to RingCentral directly. The answer is usually yes if you are an existing Avaya customer with on-prem hardware and an existing Avaya partner relationship. For net-new buyers with no Avaya history, buying RingCentral directly is typically simpler and offers more direct access to pricing and roadmap.

What buyers should know about Avaya's recent history

Avaya filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2023, its second bankruptcy in six years. The company emerged from bankruptcy and continues to operate, but the event understandably raises questions about long-term platform confidence.
