Mitel Cloud VoIP Review 2026

Mitel's cloud offering is a rebranded RingCentral. It exists to migrate Mitel's legacy on-premises base, not to win new business. Our take: most buyers should skip the middle layer and go RingCentral direct.

Our view

MiCloud Connect is Mitel's cloud UCaaS product and it runs on RingCentral's infrastructure. Mitel and RingCentral entered a partnership that mirrors the Avaya Cloud Office arrangement. Mitel resells RingCentral's platform under its own brand, with Mitel's support and migration layer on top. In practice that means you are buying RingCentral with an extra organization between you and the platform.

We don't recommend it for most buyers, and we don't quote it. Mitel's strategy since going private has centered on managing its installed base rather than competing for new customers, and the cloud product reflects that. If you have no Mitel history, there is no reason to take on the extra layer: RingCentral direct gets you the identical platform with better pricing access and a cleaner support path. The narrow exception is hospitality and other Mitel on-prem shops with deep PMS integrations, where the migration tooling has real value.

Mitel ownership context

Mitel was taken private by Searchlight Capital Partners in 2022, and in March 2025 the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to restructure roughly $1.3 billion in debt. It emerged in June 2025 under the ownership of its former lenders. The balance sheet is healthier now, but the episode underlines where things stand: Mitel's focus is managing a declining on-prem base, not investing in a competitive cloud product. Buyers should weigh that trajectory carefully before signing a multi-year agreement.

Honest pros and cons

Strengths

  • RingCentral infrastructure with 99.999% uptime SLA, because it literally is RingCentral
  • Strong migration tooling for MiVoice and MiContact on-prem customers
  • Deep hospitality vertical experience and PMS integrations

Weaknesses

  • Net-new buyers have no real reason to choose Mitel over RingCentral direct
  • Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2025 and an ownership handoff to lenders raise real questions about long-term direction
  • Strategy is built around harvesting the installed base, not product investment
  • AI and innovation features often lag direct RingCentral by a release cycle
  • Support path through two organizations complicates escalations

Who Mitel Cloud fits

The narrow case for staying…

  • You run MiVoice Business or MiContact Center with deep, active integrations you can't easily rebuild
  • You're a hotel with PMS integrations tied directly to your Mitel system
  • Your Mitel partner relationship delivers real, ongoing value you'd lose by leaving

Everyone else…

  • Net-new buyers: there is no version of this where MiCloud beats RingCentral direct. Same platform, more layers
  • Existing Mitel customers without deep integrations: a migration event is the natural moment to run a real comparison, not roll forward by default
  • Risk-sensitive organizations: a 2025 bankruptcy and lender ownership are not the profile you want behind a 3-year contract
