8x8 sells its phone system in two main tiers, X2 and X4, and the gap between them is wider than most buyers expect. Here are the 2026 list prices by plan and seat count, the add-ons and taxes on top, and what the number looks like negotiated.
8x8 costs $17 to $57 per user per month at list price on an annual contract. The entry plan, X2, lists at $28 per user per month for a team of five and falls to $17 at 500 seats and above. The upper plan, X4, lists at $57 and falls to $38. Two things move it. Month to month billing costs about 20% more. And the negotiated rate through an advisor typically runs 11% to 40% below list, depending on the plan and the seat count, with the deepest bands on X2 from 101 seats up. At 500 seats and above the rate is quoted deal by deal rather than banded. Taxes, desk phones and contact center seats are billed on top.
8x8 sells two unified communications plans. X2 is the standard phone system. X4 adds international calling, call recording and supervisor tools. Everything below is annual contract list price per user per month, before taxes and before any discount.
| Plan | List, annual | Approx. month to month | What is included |
|---|---|---|---|
| X2 | $28 down to $17 | About $20 to $34 | Unlimited US and Canada calling, SMS, team messaging, 500-participant video, voicemail transcription, auto attendant |
| X4 | $57 down to $38 | About $46 to $68 | Everything in X2, plus 48-country calling, call recording, supervisor analytics, barge, monitor and whisper |
| X6 to X8 contact center | Quote based | Quote based | Agent queues, skills-based routing, omnichannel, workforce management, per agent |
The month to month column applies the roughly 20% premium 8x8 charges for dropping the annual commitment. Contact center tiers above X4 are priced per agent and quoted case by case, so we publish no figure for them.
These are list prices. Almost nobody past a handful of seats signs at these numbers. Quoted through us, 19% to 27% off list is normal from 6 through 50 seats on annual and multi-year agreements, and the bands run deeper on X2 from 51 seats up.
Set your team size below. The calculator shows the published list price for that seat band and the range we see on recently signed 8x8 agreements at the same size.
8x8 list prices and the negotiated bands behind this calculator were last verified on June 7, 2026.
Two discounts are at work. The first is published: the rate steps down at each seat band, so a 60 seat company sees a lower list price than a 10 seat company. The second is negotiated. The last column shows where we typically land on X2 once both apply.
| Seats | X2 list | X4 list | Typical negotiated discount on X2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 5 | $28 | $57 | 11% to 17% off list |
| 6 to 10 | $26 | $55 | 20% to 26% off list |
| 11 to 24 | $24 | $52 | 19% to 25% off list |
| 25 to 50 | $22 | $48 | 21% to 27% off list |
| 51 to 100 | $20 | $44 | 25% to 31% off list |
| 101 to 250 | $19 | $42 | 32% to 38% off list |
| 251 to 500 | $18 | $40 | 34% to 40% off list |
| 500 and above | $17 | $38 | Quote based, negotiated deal by deal |
Negotiated ranges are stated conservatively and reflect real agreements rather than a promise. Term length and contact center bundling move where you land inside them.
List on X2 at that band is $22 per user per month, which is $1,100 a month or $13,200 a year before taxes. Negotiated, the same 50 seats usually lands in the range of $810 to $870 a month. Over a three year term that difference is worth $8,280 to $10,440. If the team needed international calling and moved to X4, list at 50 seats is $48 per user, or $2,400 a month. Doubling the rate for a feature eight people use is the most common 8x8 overspend.

Which plan you need comes down to two questions. Do you call outside the US and Canada, and does anyone need to supervise live calls. If both answers are no, X2 covers you.

The exclusions that catch people out are international calling on X2 and contact center on both plans. Anything beyond the US and Canada is billed per minute or requires X4. Contact center is sold separately, per agent.
The per-seat rate is usually 70% to 80% of the invoice. Here is the rest.
Every price here is pre-tax, and so is every price 8x8 advertises. Expect Universal Service Fund contributions, a regulatory recovery fee, 911 fees, and state and local telecom taxes. Together they typically add roughly 10% to 20% on top of the quoted per-seat rate, depending on which states your users sit in. On the $20 list rate at that band that is another $2.00 to $4.00 per user per month, or $2,400 to $4,800 a year at 100 seats.
Ask for a fully loaded per-seat cost including taxes. The detail is in VoIP taxes and fees explained.
Annual versus month to month. Dropping the annual commitment costs roughly 20% more per seat. Worth paying if you might genuinely leave inside a year. Most will not, and pay it anyway.
Term length. One, two and three year terms are available. Longer terms start lower and hold price better. A one year term renews at the prevailing rate, so cap the uplift in writing.
Seat count thresholds. A company at 48 seats and one at 52 seats get quoted differently. If you are near a break, ask for the next band on a growth commitment.
Bundling contact center. The biggest lever most buyers skip. Agent licenses carry the margin, so quoting them alongside the phone seats makes those seats far more negotiable.
Auto-renew rolls the agreement for a full additional term unless you give written notice 30 to 60 days before expiry. Early termination liability is typically the remaining contract value.
Paying for X4 across the whole company. The most common 8x8 overspend we see. A few people need international calling, so everyone gets moved at more than double the rate. Mixed plans are allowed. Use them.
Implementation and professional services. These show up on plenty of quotes, especially with multi-site routing or complex IVR. Negotiable and often waived, but only if you ask before signing.
Seats you stopped using. Licenses do not remove themselves when people leave. On an annual term you are committed to what you signed, so true up at renewal.
Admin overhead and support. Not line items, but they cost time. 8x8 rates 3 out of 5 with us on admin portal quality, ease of setup and support, and US-based coverage varies. If response times matter, price the premium support tier with the seats.
The renewal. Best pricing shows up at signature and at competitive renewals. Quiet auto-renewals are where rates drift.
At list, 8x8 sits mid-market on entry price. It separates on international coverage, the strongest in this group, and gives ground on ease of administration.
| Provider | Entry list price | Month to month premium | Free trial | Compare |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8x8 (X2) | $28 | About 20% | Yes | This page |
| RingCentral | $30 | About 15% | No | 8x8 vs RingCentral |
| Zoom Phone | $16 | About 20% | Yes | 8x8 vs Zoom Phone |
| Dialpad | $20 | About 20% | Yes | 8x8 vs Dialpad |
| Nextiva | $30 | About 20% | Yes | 8x8 vs Nextiva |
| GoTo Connect | $27 | About 15% | Yes | GoTo Connect vs 8x8 |
Entry list price is a poor way to pick a platform. Zoom Phone looks far cheaper at $16, and for a domestic team it often is, but it discounts less at volume. By 200 seats the negotiated gap is much narrower than list suggests.
Our view is that 8x8 prices fairly for what it does, and well if you use the international coverage. It prices badly for a domestic team sold X4, or a small team paying list. Both are fixable in one conversation. For the wider picture, our VoIP pricing guide covers cost at every seat count, and the full 8x8 review covers the platform.
We'll price 8x8 at wholesale alongside two or three alternatives, show the cost including taxes, and say honestly if another platform fits better.
8x8 costs $17 to $57 per user per month at list price on an annual contract. X2 lists at $28 for a small team and steps down to $17 at 500 seats and above. X4 lists at $57 and steps down to $38. Month to month billing runs roughly 20% higher.
Yes, unlike RingCentral, which does not offer one. Use the trial to test call quality on your own network and to see how the admin portal feels, because that is where 8x8 draws the most criticism.
There can be. Implementation and professional services fees appear on plenty of 8x8 quotes, especially with multi-site routing, complex IVR trees or international numbers. They are negotiable and often waived on annual and multi-year agreements. Ask for the line to be itemized before you sign.
Yes, and the gap is meaningful. On X2 we typically see 11% to 17% off list at 1 to 5 seats, 19% to 31% off from 6 through 100 seats, and 32% to 40% off from 101 through 500 seats. Term length, seat count and whether you bundle contact center all move the number.
X2, at $28 per user per month on an annual contract for a small team. It includes unlimited US and Canada calling, business SMS, team messaging, video for up to 500 participants, voicemail transcription and an auto attendant. It excludes international calling and contact center queues.
It can. A one-year agreement renews at whatever the prevailing rate is, which is usually higher than what you signed. Lock the rate for the full term in writing and cap any renewal uplift. Two-year and three-year terms hold price better.
At list, 50 seats on X2 is $22 per user per month, or $1,100 a month and $13,200 a year before taxes. Negotiated, that same 50 seats usually lands in the range of $810 to $870 a month. On X4, list at 50 seats is $48 per user.
Entry list prices are close, with X2 at $28 and RingCentral Core at $30 per user per month. The difference is what each includes. X4 bundles unlimited calling to 48 countries, which RingCentral sells as an add-on, so multinational teams often come out ahead on 8x8.
Only if you use what it adds. X4 roughly doubles the per-seat price and buys unlimited calling to 48 countries, call recording, supervisor analytics, and barge, monitor and whisper. If you call overseas daily or supervise a sales floor, that is good value. Otherwise stay on X2.
Yes. Universal Service Fund contributions, regulatory recovery fees, 911 fees and state and local telecom taxes are excluded from the advertised per-seat price. Together they typically add roughly 10% to 20% on top of the quoted rate, depending on which state your users sit in.
